Septoplasty Surgery

The septum is a midline wall that separates the left and right nasal chambers within the nose. A septoplasty surgery is a procedure that straightens a bend or distortion in the nose's septum, improving nasal airflow. The turbinates are tissue scrolls that run down the nose's side walls. Turbinate reduction is a procedure that reduces the size of swollen turbinates, hence alleviating nasal obstruction using deviated septum surgery. Under general anaesthesia, it may be combined with a surgical septoplasty. An endoscope, a narrow tube with a light at the end, will be used by a specialist to improve perception and provide an enhanced view while operating.

The surgical treatment of defects and deformities of the nasal septum is known as septoplasty (the partition between the nostrils). The septum is a bone and cartilage structure in the middle of the nose that separates one nasal cavity from the other. When the septum is crooked, it can block one side of the nose and cause major airflow problems. By removing the deviated piece of the septum and rebuilding the remaining bone and cartilage, septoplasty aims to straighten the septum as much as possible in the midline position and open the airway.

Septoplasty is normally performed as an outpatient procedure, which means that most patients can return home the same day. Swelling can last two to three days, but it might take up to three months to fully recover. In Septoplasty, the patients are supposed to undergo nasal packing for 48hours. But in pain free pack less nasal surgery there is no need to undergo this procedure.
